Gaia-X 4 ROMS

Support and Remote-Operation of Automated and Networked Mobility Services

Gaia-X 4 ROMS is a project of the Gaia-X Initiative(https://www.gaia-x4futuremobility.de/de/projects/roms) funded by the BMWK in which other universities as well as large industrial partners are involved. The project creates the prerequisites for the integration of innovative vehicles into a holistic data space based on Gaia-X. This data space should be decentralized and federated and provides the possibility to perform sovereign data exchange.

Research topics

We are primarily concerned with the topic of "Privacy Preserving Machine Learning" and use, among other things, the structure and properties of distributed data spaces for this purpose. These are combined, for example, with from homomorphic encryption or "differential privacy" to ensure data sovereignty. The distributed nature of the data space renders distributed learning a valuable asset. This enables the handling of sensitive data in the field of machine learning.

Goals of the Gaia-X Initiative

Data is often shared and isolated. There is still no way to carry out a self-determined and secure exchange of data. The biggest problems here are the lack of a uniform form of communication and the lack of secure self-determination over the data during and after the exchange. The Gaia-X initiative supports the goals of the European Data Strategy to seize the opportunities of digitalization and improve decision making to use data for business, science, the public sector and the public. Taking into account European data protection, openness and transparency, authenticity and trust, digital sovereignty and self-determination, free market access and European value creation, modularity and interoperability, and ease of use, the guiding principles of Gaia-X(https://gaia-x.eu) aim to support a flexible, secure and sovereign data ecosystem.
